Student Media University of Arizona
Student Media is the University of Arizona’s hub for student-run publications, including The Daily Wildcat. It provides real-world experience in journalism, media production, design, and advertising, empowering students to tell campus stories across print, digital, and broadcast platforms.
Year :
2024
Industry :
Journalism and Media
Client :
Student Media, The Univeristy Of Arizona
Project Duration :
1.5 years

Problem :
Student publications often struggle to stand out visually, especially when appealing to a digitally native Gen Z audience. The challenge was to design a bold, editorially driven website and digital assets that elevated the visual identity of The Daily Wildcat while keeping it aligned with student culture and the brand voice of the University of Arizona.

Solution :
To craft a cohesive and forward-looking magazine experience, I conducted in-depth interviews with students, editors, and faculty to identify key expectations for the upcoming Wildcat Welcome 2025 issue. I tied these insights into a unified visual and editorial strategy for both the Student Media website and the print publication. I created visual concepts, presentation decks, and layout iterations that balanced institutional storytelling with Gen Z appeal.

My Role :
Lead Visual Designer for Wildcat Welcome 2025 magazine
Collaborated with editorial teams, advertising, and student leadership
Developed digital and print layouts, visual identities, and interactive prototypes
Supported office tasks under Mark Marrero, including ad layouts, internal comms, and event collateral
Results :
Successfully designed and shipped the Fall 2024-25 magazine, distributed globally
Strengthened brand cohesion across web and print
Received direct praise from editors and department heads for design precision and adaptability
Supported marketing and advertising outcomes for Student Media’s business unit
